        Heat Spies: Sea Lion Thermal Windows

        Organisms need the sun for warmth and energy, but how hot can they get before it’s too much to handle? Join us and explore how California Sea Lions exchange heat with their environment by using thermal imaging cameras. This workshop will be led by Scripps Instution of Oceanography, PhD Student Sonya Timko who specializes in thermal ecology.

        Have you ever wondered what the invisible life in our oceans look like? Even though these creatures can't be seen with the naked eye, they are arguably the most important group and is the reason why so many beautiful ecosystems can exist.

        Come learn how to do a plankton tow and go into the lab and try to identify as many marine plankton as you can using a compound microscope.
